14 Aug: A Swedish court has ruled [http://www.internationallawoffice.com/newsletters/Detail.aspx?r=12935] that the "temporary copy" exception to the EUCD's reproduction right does not cover the scanning and indexing of a newspaper article by a search engine. The district and appeal courts held that the scanned copies were the subject of the search and not an integrated part of a technical process. The scanning was also initiated by a person and was hence not automatic.
